Martin Forbes Heatlie

Group CEO

In 2017, Martin assumed the role of CEO at Smith Brothers Leicester, leveraging extensive experience from senior positions in operations and finance across various family businesses and membership-owned organisations. Holding an MBA from Oxford Brookes and being a qualified accountant, Martin is married with four children, accompanied by three dogs, three cats, and a trusty Triumph Tiger. Perhaps running more than advisable, he also likes to sit in the stands at Welford Road Stadium cheering on the Leicester Tigers.

Group Chairman

Chris, a member of the Smith family, became part of SBL in 1986, bringing with him valuable experience from the hosiery and machine tools sectors. Specialising in Dust Extraction and Biomass Boiler divisions within the company, he also served as Chairman of a trade association for three years. Chris holds a deep sense of pride in the ethos and values upheld by the group and remains dedicated to ensuring that the family business continues to uphold its outstanding reputation for service and value.

Jane Beasley | Smith Bothers Leicester

Jane Beasley

Group Vice Chair

Jane is our Vice Chair. She brings balance to discussions and provides an experienced sounding board to the business. Jane was educated at Newark Girls Grammar School in Leicester and went on to study finance at Nottingham University before progressing to Staffordshire Agricultural College. After leaving full-time education Jane set up a secretarial and accountancy business serving the farming sector in the East Midlands. She later joined the ‘family firm’ where she worked her way through the Finance Department to the role of Finance Director for Air Plants Dust Extraction – a role which she continued to perform full-time until 2017.

As well as the Vice Chair to the SBL Board, Jane is also a Non-Executive Director for the SBL subsidiary companies and provides the guidance and advice that one would expect from a strong matriarchal presence. She continues to ensure that her father’s legacy and mother’s encouragement remain a constant within the business's values, ethos and operations today and Smith Brothers (Leicester) Ltd continues to be a sound business for future generations.

Graham Inglis

Head of Group Finance

Graham joined Smith Brothers as Head of Group Finance in 2020, focussing on investments, property and family office. A qualified accountant with a BSc in Mathematics from Warwick, and with over 20 years of experience in senior finance roles in manufacturing, engineering and maintenance businesses, Graham has worked within both multinationals and SME
